Working Pattern: Permanent, full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday

Salary: £32,000 - £34,000 per annum (dependent on existing skillset & qualifications)


Lowri Beck is looking for a Trainer & Assessor to join their Training Academy based at the Ashton-in-Makerfield site in Wigan. The Trainer will design, develop, and deliver new starter, refresher & upskill training courses/modules to Lowri Beck Trainees, in line with business requirements. This will include the delivery of Dual Fuel (Gas & Power (including three phase), EV, and any other required training such as inductions and general training modules. The Trainer will complete assessments on Trainees to ensure that set and agreed competency standards are met before the Trainees can ‘go live’ into the field.


Key Accountabilities

  • Design and development of training courses/modules across a range of classroom and practical training in line with the requirements set by the Training Academy Manger, Quality Manager and Training Lead, and the creation of all related documents such as; lesson plans, schemes of work, trainer notes, training aids, assessments etc…

  • High-quality delivery of training courses/modules under the Training Academy remit, and in line with the 12-month training programme & set training timescales.

  • Creating assessments that meet the required standards (internal and external), and assessing trainees to the required standards set both internally and in line with awarding body requirements where appropriate.

  • Working with other Lowri Beck departments to ensure that any ‘on the job’ training delivered within the field is up to date, and also ensure that any changes delivered in field are reflected in the Training Academy training and assessment materials.

  • Ensuring that own technical and business knowledge stays up to date and accurate.

  • Updating training modules in line with areas of expertise under the supervision of the Training Lead and Quality Manager.

  • Develop skills, knowledge and experience to ensure the technical knowledge within the team grows and develops to meet current and future business needs.

  • Ensuring that all required training aids and materials are prepared prior to delivering the training, to ensure the course/module runs as efficiently as possible.

  • Ensuring that all training/assessment attendance information is shared with the Training Administrators in a timely manner to allow data to be recorded accurately.

  • Ensuring all appropriate records and systems are maintained in a timely manner for all training and assessment elements.

  • Ensuring Trainees are making the appropriate progression by providing timely feedback on all aspects of performance, assessing portfolio and other work as appropriate.

  • ‘Handing over’ of Trainee to field with recommendations for development as appropriate.

  • Ensuring all training and assessment complies with the requirements of the Health & Safety at Work Act, and all other relevant bodies (such as BPEC, C&G, EUSR) as well as aligning with internal requirements such as MoCoPA, SSoWs and Lowri Beck policy and procedure.

  • Supporting the Training Academy Manager in implementing the Lowri Beck Training Academy Vision & Strategy, and related SLA’s/KPI’s. Responsible for working towards meeting the related SLA’s and KPI’s.

  • Work on any projects designed to improve the Training Academy offering, as well as supporting in the creation of streamlined and effective Training Academy processes.

  • Any other ad-hoc duties as requested by the Training Academy Manager/Management team or company leadership team.


What we are looking for

  • Currently hold industry standard gas or electric qualification and/be willing to work towards and obtain Dual Fuel Metering qualifications (including MOCOPA accreditation).

  • Hold PTLLS & Assessor qualifications.

  • Previous experience of designing and delivering operational/technical training for Smart Metering (or appropriate equivalent) where training materials are aligned to awarding body criteria & industry body standards, and all legislative and technical updates are captured and updated within training materials.

  • Ability to design appropriate training & assessment programmes and related materials and use innovative ways of designing and delivering content to Trainees to a high standard.

  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written), with an ability to fully engage Trainees in the subject matter.
