Lowri Beck is looking for a Lead IQA/QA to join their Training Academy based at the Ashton-in-Makerfield site in Wigan. The successful candidate will ensure that all current and future IQA/QA activities are implemented and maintained to the standards required, as well as driving the continuation of standardisation within the Training Academy.


The Lead IQA/QA will be setting standards and carrying out IQA duties on existing and new training delivery packages, as well as managing all training academy centre accreditations (present and future) and leading on any required external audits. In addition, they will also work closely with the rest of the training function, ensuring that standards are being maintained and monitoring and auditing all quality aspects of the training delivery.


Key Accountabilities

  • Support on any Training Needs Analysis (TNA) and scoping of new training and competency requirements for Operations, with the support of the Training Lead/Training Delivery Manager.

  • Be the lead IQA within the Lowri Beck training academy for all programmes as required, particularly Dual Fuel and EV. There will be a requirement to review existing IQA structure and process and recommend improvements.

  • Develop and implement the appropriate governance and assurance procedures and share across the function and the business as appropriate to ensure that all parties are aware of the role they play.

  • Lead on preparing for external inspection from quality standards agencies or awarding bodies and to act as training academy liaison on inspection visits (Including Energy & Efficiency Independent Assessment Service (EEIAS), National Skills Academy for Power (NSAP), BPEC, City & Guilds (C&G), National Inspection Council for Electrical Installation Contracting (NICEIC) etc).

  • Keep abreast of developments in national standards setting procedures and to drive the internal standardisation process.

  • Be proactive in the early diagnosis of potential quality issues and to propose and then implement strategies for improvement and monitor and report on their impact.

  • Assist the Training Lead and rest of training academy management team in monitoring and evaluating across the academy, including lesson and assessment observation, analysing the data, and making recommendations.

  • Supporting the Training Delivery Manager in implementing the training academy vision and strategy and related SLA’s/KPI’s. Responsible for team working towards meeting the related SLA’s and KPI’s.

  • All other quality assurance and governance, and project management duties as can be reasonably expected from the Training Delivery Manager. There may be a requirement to deputise for the Training Delivery Manager at times.

  • Carry out any other lead duties as can be reasonably be expected by the Training Delivery Manager.


What we are looking for

  • Good level of education (GCSE or equivalent) along with IQA & Assessor (TAQA or equivalent) qualifications.

  • Significant experience of Internal Quality Assurance within a quality governance and assurance role within a training function or similar, preferably within the utilities (or similar) industry.

  • Experience of interacting/collaborating with awarding bodies to ensure that the Lowri Beck Training Academy is aligned with awarding/governing body requirements and to ensure that all external audits are completed to an excellent standard.

  • Knowledge and understanding of the purpose of a training function and the best practices and processes that are required to deliver a customer focused, professional service.

  • Understanding of awarding body and industry standard criteria for the training delivered within Lowri Beck Training Academy such as City & Guilds, BPEC, National Skills Academy for Power (NSAP), Energy & Utility Skills Register (EUSR), Gas Safe Register.

  • Excellent IT skills across a range of software and systems including Microsoft Office (particularly Excel), Outlook and Learning Management System (LMS) systems – also open to developing IT/Systems skills.

  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written, with an ability to fully engage key stakeholders.
