Working Pattern: Permanent, full-time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday - Friday

Our finance department are looking for a Commercial Accountant who will join the department and gain a full understanding of the organisation, providing the key decision makers with the financial information to make informed decisions. This is an interesting, varied, and challenging role that will involve providing the operational teams in the business with a high standard of financial support. The role will be based at our 'Mayor's Quay' head office in Wigan and will be working on a hybrid working basis.


Key Accountabilities

  • Preparation of timely and accurate monthly management accounts, commentary, and analysis, complying with all relevant accounting and company policies and procedures.

  • Assisting the Finance Manager with the monthly management accounts including completion of balance sheet reconciliations and monthly reports.

  • Provide constructive challenge and input to ensure that opportunities and risks are identified, reported, and addressed.

  • Act as a financial business partner to the relevant leadership teams to ensure financial issues are robustly and effectively managed and reported.

  • Assist in the preparation of the annual budget and regular re-forecasts to Group.

  • Continually review, and implement improved financial control procedures, systems, and processes.

  • Produce detailed analysis such as sales and purchases by customer & department.

  • Review and highlight areas for improvements such as efficiency, process improvements with a financial benefit to the business – value add, cost reduction.

  • Preparing and complying for statutory audits.

  • Assisting with the production of the monthly and quarterly VAT returns.


What we are looking for

  • A good standard of general education + professional accounting qualification (ACA/ACCA/CIMA)

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working within a similar role, with experience of dealing with stakeholders on a regular basis, preparing and analysing management accounts within a commercial environment.

  • Experience of data manipulation using Power BI, Power Query, Excel.

  • Computer literate with ability to operate Microsoft Office, in particular Microsoft Excel.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage conflict and maintain good relationships with key stakeholders.

  • A proven capability to interrogate, analyse and manage complex data streams for multiple internal/external sources.
